Davenport, Iowa is in the heart of America. A place with small-town values that align perfectly with a family-style approach to Alzheimer's care.
Look closely, and you'll find CountryHouse nestled among other homes in a lovely residential neighborhood. Yet it's conveniently located close to shopping, banks and other services.
The first one of Agemark's new design, CountryHouse Davenport is actually two houses that share a large central back yard. Each house is divided into two smaller living areas.
With its lush exterior, tasteful decor, sunny dining rooms, french doors and other homey features, CountryHouse is charming.
More importantly, it's functional -- created specifically to meet the needs of those with progressive memory loss. Living areas are clustered so that residents feel part of a smaller, family size group. Security features are discrete, yet ensure safety. Halls and sidewalks allow residents to walk freely in circular pathways.
As different as it looks from any other care community, where CountryHouse really shines is in its people. Our staff understand the difference between caring about and giving care, and they're committed to infusing our unique philosophy into everything they do.
Our devoted staff provide:
- Gentle direction, through daily activities & structured programming
- "Moments of Joy", by helping residents find simple pleasures and recall pleasant times in their life
- A loving atmosphere, in the respectful & soothing manner in which all residents are treated
All staff participate in activities, including many special events throughout the year. In June, everyone plays a role for an annual mock wedding. Families join in by bringing old wedding photos, and residents enjoy the happy memories that are triggered.
There are trips to the circus and county fair. And in any given week it's not unusual for a group of staff and residents to attend a dinner theatre or just go out for lunch together.
School groups are also integrated into the activity program. From pre-schoolers to college students, everone benefits from the experience.
In many ways, Alzheimer's is harder on the family than it is on the one afflicted. It's heartbreaking to watch the disease progres
s; it's difficult for roles to change, and to become a stranger to someone you love.
We understand that families often want to care for their loved one themselves, and may feel guilty if career, children or environment makes home care an untenable or unsafe solution.
That's why CountryHouse serves the family as well as the resident. We offer educational programs and resources, special seasonal events, and monthly support group meetings.
And by letting CountryHouse take care of the day-to-day details, families are free to focus on spending more quality time -- just talking, walking or laughing together.
Instead of replacing the family's role as caregiver, we become their partner in care.
